You're right, that is totally tacky. Honestly, I think it's always a little tacky for a woman to throw her own baby shower... isn't that what friends/sisters/aunts/etc. are for? But for it to be required event at school, well, she's taking advantage of her job. I would definitely call the school, and if they don't do anything about it, just don't go. Hey, it has an RSVP, so technically that means you could decline! There's certainly nothing that obligates you to go to a baby shower, especially if the host/mother is being rude and presumptuous.
