Need some fashion advice for a wedding?

I am an athletic wear type person and have no clue about fashion. I want to look nice for my stepson's wedding. I bought a purple floral print dress (about mid knee) for a morning wedding in a hot climate. Can I wear gold sandal type shoes with it (about 1 inch heals)? What other color shoes can I wear and what color purse? Thanks
